Colin's 8th Hawkesbury Canoe Classic for Arrow Foundation

Supporting Hawkesbury Canoe Classic

Hawkesbury Canoe Classic

Hawkesbury Classic 2024

It's time to tackle the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic once again. This will be my 8th Classic, and the 4th paddling a double canoe, for 111km from Windsor to Mooney Mooney (ssshhhh… It’s actually 99km if you can steer a good course, but that’s hard in a craft without a rudder and you can’t see in the dark). Starting at 4:00pm 26th October, we paddle into the night (only stopping 2 times for food and drink resupply, NO SLEEPS!) and will hopefully arrive at the finish before dawn. It's a long way, it's dark, it's sometimes scary, but it's a hell of an adventure.

But it's not just about me! The Classic is a fundraiser, with the amazing Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation as the primary recipient. Below is some information about the great work Arrow does, with more info here: https://arrow.org.au/ If you are in a position to donate please do. ALL funds go to Arrow along with Marine Rescue and the SES, as the event running costs are already covered by entry fees paid by participants.

Each year, thousands of Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, or myeloma, and many more are diagnosed with autoimmune diseases such as MS, blood diseases like anaemia, and other non-malignant diseases. In many cases a bone marrow or stem cell transplant offers the best chance for recovery.

Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation is dedicated to helping medical researchers find better treatments -- and one day hopefully cures -- for diseases treatable by bone marrow transplants.

Until that day comes, Arrow is dedicated to supporting bone marrow transplant patients and those who care for them.

They do this by:

● providing financial assistance and information to our patients, their families and carers

● Supporting the educational and professional development needs of nurses and other health care professionals working in the transplant field.

● Investing in medical research that improves bone marrow transplant patient outcomes.
