Supportive Strides for Homelessness – Back Again!
After the incredible success of last year’s Supportive Strides for Homelessness, we’re excited to announce that the event will be returning on Sunday 26th October. Last year, thanks to your generosity, we raised an amazing $2,500 for The Avalon Centre — and this year, we’re aiming even higher!
As many of you know, the Avalon Centre is a cause very close to my heart. This small but mighty charity does extraordinary work to support the most vulnerable in our community, especially those experiencing homelessness.
Our inspiring founder, Deb Holmes, pours her heart and energy into this mission every day. From delivering clothing and bedding to people on the streets, to providing a welcoming drop-in centre for a cuppa, a chat (and even a haircut!), to running the remarkable Homes for the Homeless program — Avalon finds countless ways to meet needs that would otherwise go unmet.
What I love most is Avalon’s philosophy: offering a hand up, not a hand out. The focus is always on restoring dignity and helping people back on their feet wherever possible.
And unlike large organisations, Avalon is run out of Deb’s own home in Malvern. With no big overheads, every dollar raised goes directly to those who need it most, with the kind of flexibility and heart that only grassroots charities can deliver.
So lace up your runners, bring your generosity, and be part of this year’s fundraiser!
