Lisa Walker (Scouts, Guides, River Canoe Club) & Simon Wilkes (River Canoe Club) have paired up to raise funds for The Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation - a fantastic cause. We will be taking part in the Hawkesbury 65km Canoe Event on 8th-9th November.
Not only is it the longest single journey either of us will have ever completed, it will also be happening mostly through the night, in a tandem kayak... if one of us falls asleep we both get wet 😂
And just to add to the drama for any UK friends reading, this is totally shark-infested waters 🦈
We've been training already with more and more time in and on the water recently and we've been slowly building up to having now done a 24km paddle so far. Averaging anywhere between 6.5-8.5kph. We're expecting the event to take us 12-14hours with snackstops, starting 4pm on Saturday night. We've also tested out the tandem kayak we'll be in on the day. Verdict = definitely speedy, a bit wobbly (twitchy user error) and slightly squeaky if Simon happens to move in the boat with no warning 😆
James is our land support crew for this event, we are borrowing our speedy craft from Dee & Michael, and we have the support of River Canoe Club members behind us too - grateful to you all for your input in this adventure we've taken on.
We'd be delighted with any dollar or cent you can donate. It will make failure for us not an option and spur us on. For us, it's not a race, we're here to be successful and have fun - success being 65km and a good lump of $$$s raised for our cause 🩵
Also, we would be very grateful for you to share the link to this CrowdRaiser page to your friends and family. The more people who can help the better!
Thank you
Simon & Lisa
