Braille is literacy for children and adults who are blind or have low vision.

For every one hundred books a sighted child has access to, there are less than five books available to a child who is blind.

Reading and writing are the fundamentals of education and without these basics, individuals are disadvantaged. For a child who is blind, Braille is the only way to learn skills such as spelling, grammar and punctuation.

In 2024, Braille House produced 126,301 pages in Braille, thanks to the support of generous donors like you. 

Year 7 student, Rowan said, "I haven’t decided yet what I want to be when I grow up, but I do know I need my education. Being able to read Braille is a big part of learning and having books in Braille helps me. We are members of the Braille House Library and I enjoy reading comedy and sport books. 'Horrid Henry' is my favourite book. 

For me, Braille House is somewhere that I can learn, be challenged, and talk like crazy to new and old friends. They teach how to read Braille, support our community, and bring families together at events like the Braille House Literary Challenge. It is a place where I feel welcome, and I can be myself.
