Susan’s story
Charles was diagnosed at the age of 62 with early onset Dementia in 2016. It scared us both so much. We had spent the last 40 years working together on building a life and a family. We had just retired and had so much planned. We were going to travel, spend time with the grandchildren and importantly, spend time with each other.
Our world turned upside down and I didn’t know how we were going to manage. Charles wanted to stay at home as long as he could, but I didn’t know if I would be able to manage by myself.
Helping Hand was a blessing. They asked us what we wanted and worked with us on making it happen. Charles is still at home and his care needs are delivered to us. We get a couple of visits a week to assist Charles with nursing and care and some domestic help for us both. I know Helping Hand will be there for the long term. Most importantly, we have kept our promise to each other. We do short trips, visit the family regularly and Charles and I are spending quality time with each other.
We put our trust in Helping Hand and the support we receive has helped us to push through the tough times and enjoy the good times. Helping Hand has been life changing for us. Susan
