About this cause
A Helping Hand When It’s Needed Most
For almost 15 years, Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has been there for people in our community when life gets tough.
Established in 2011, we are a registered not-for-profit charity providing practical, grassroots support to people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, financial hardship, social isolation and crisis.
What began with a few home-cooked meals has grown into a community organisation supporting individuals and families in many different ways — always with dignity, kindness and respect.
People come through our doors for many reasons.
Some are experiencing homelessness. Some are struggling to put food on the table. Some are working but finding that the rising cost of living simply doesn’t leave enough. Others may be facing an unexpected crisis, recovering from disaster, or simply feeling isolated and needing somewhere safe and welcoming to connect.
Whatever the circumstances, our aim is simple:
To offer a helping hand without judgement.
Through The Hive, our community hub in South Windsor, and our wider outreach and community programs, Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands provides support including:
Food relief and emergency hampers
Weekly hamper days
Community meals
Showers and laundry facilities
Toiletries and personal care items
Tents, swags, sleeping bags, blankets and other essential items for people experiencing homelessness
Pet food and supplies for four-legged companions
Outreach support and connection with other services
Technology access and a safe place to sit, have a cuppa and connect
School backpack and essential school-supply programs
Christmas Day lunch and other community celebrations
Support for local cultural and community initiatives
Disaster preparedness, response and recovery
During bushfires, floods and other emergencies, our role extends beyond our usual services. We work alongside our community to help prepare, respond when disaster strikes, and continue supporting people throughout the long road to recovery.
But perhaps one of the most important things we provide cannot be put in a hamper.
Connection.
A conversation. A listening ear. A place where someone knows your name. Somewhere you can walk through the door without having to explain or justify why you need a little help.
Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has always been built on community helping community.
Our work is made possible by our incredible volunteers, supporters, donors, local businesses, charity partners and the wider Helping Hands family who continue to stand beside us.
Every donation helps us keep our doors open, our vehicles on the road, our fridges and freezers running, food on our shelves and practical support available when someone needs it.
How can you help?
Donate. Fundraise. Share. Volunteer.
Whether it is $5, $50 or simply sharing our story, every contribution helps.
Because lots of littles really do make a lot.
Together, we can continue giving a helping hand when it’s needed most.
Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
