MANNA KIDS PROGRAM
The Manna Kids Breakfast Program was first founded in 2001.
In conjunction with Foodbank WA (who has graciously and kindly offered their support in partnership from 2018 to supply our schools with core basic breakfast supplies), Manna provides the logistical support of delivering these supplies to our school network, which would otherwise not have the resources to access this service.
Complimenting the core supplies provided by Foodbank WA, Manna also source and provide the following weekly food supplies and home-made products to our network of schools:
Freshly baked muffins and scones or cakes, eggs, sliced bread loaves, dairy products, snacks, pre-made sandwiches, fresh fruit and vegetables.
Our schools also have access to emergency food relief hampers, should a family within their schools require crisis care.
Our program is offered at schools in areas of need where students often attend school with inadequate or no breakfast, and many do not have lunch either. The children enjoy a healthy meal before and during school hours under the supervision of a school coordinator, who is usually the chaplain of the school.
Through the data collected, over 50% of the students attending these schools are affected by one or more of the following issues:
Generational poverty, transciency, domestic violence and or other substance abuse.
Students participating in the Manna Kids Program not only experience the physical benefits, but also the positive social and educational aspects of the program. Our services through the Breakfast Program, is not limited to food supplies provided only for the breakfast meals. Almost half of our supplies provided to the schools also provide for recess and lunchtime needs, and after school activities such as homework club.
Feedback collected through our schools have shown an increase in attendance, as well as a reduction in behavioural incidents recorded in classrooms and in the playground by the students who regularly accessed the support from the Manna Kids program.
Teachers also reported improved concentration and positive student responses to learning activities.
